Chelsea blow as PL rivals make £30m offer for 25-year-old transfer target

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is a huge fan of Wolves star Adama Traore.

Transfer News: Leeds United make £30m offer for Chelsea target Adama Traore

According to news from the Transfer Window Podcast (h/t football.london), Leeds United have made an offer of £30m for Wolves winger and Chelsea target Adama Traore.

Traore has been with Wolves for three years, having arrived after an underwhelming stint with Middlesbrough. Under the tutelage of former boss Nuno Espirito Santo, however, the former Barcelona academy ace grew in confidence and developed into a dangerous winger in the Premier League.

Traore enjoyed a fine 2019/20 season but had his fair share of struggles during the 2020/21 season. With a new manager in charge at Wolves, and his contract expiring in a couple of years, the 25-year-old has been transfer-listed. And Chelsea, are among the clubs interested, along with Leeds United and Barcelona. (h/t football.london)

However, it is the Whites that have made the first move in a bid to secure Traore’s signing by launching an opening offer, as confirmed by journalist Duncan Castles. (h/t football.london)

“They [Leeds] were prepared to pay an initial £30m for Adama, who is a player that is well known to Leeds’ director of football Victor Orta. He signed him from Aston Villa when he was in charge at Middlesbrough a few years back.”

There could, however, be some hope for Chelsea as Castles claims that Traore would not be interested in signing for Leeds and sees himself playing for a Champions League club, instead.

“My guidance is that Adama is not interested in moving there and sees himself at, rather than making a sideways move in the Premier League, he wants to move up to a club with Champions League status. Or at least very realistic chances of reaching the Champions League soon.”

Traore’s ability to play in the final third or as a wing-back would make him a handy addition for Thomas Tuchel, who lacks a proper cover for Reece James on the right side. But with Leeds already making their first move, Chelsea must act quickly if they wish to land the 25-year-old.
