Transfer News: Chelsea still persisting for Romelu Lukaku deal in case Erling Haaland doesn’t join
Speaking on the ‘London is Blue Podcast’, The Telegraph’s Matt Law (h/t Express) mentioned that Chelsea are still in talks with Romelu Lukaku as their prospects of landing Erling Haaland look dim.
Thomas Tuchel wants to strengthen Chelsea’s attacking department ahead of this season. Inter Milan’s Lukaku and Borussia Dortmund striker, Haaland, are the two names linked with the Blues.
This news comes after Lukaku has already committed his future at Inter. He told VTM (h/t Express) just before Simone Inzaghi was announced as the departing Antonio Conte’s successor:
“Yes, I am staying. I’ve already had contact with the man who normally becomes our new manager. Maybe I shouldn’t say that yet… but it was a very positive conversation.”
Romelu could reunite with Chelsea
Haaland, on the other hand, has taken the Bundesliga by storm since his move from RB Leipzig last year, but Law states that the German side does not seem like selling right now.
“Dortmund are showing no signs of being inclined to sell Haaland at the moment.”
He then added that “there are still talks for Romelu Lukaku going on behind the scenes”. So, a possibility of a reunion is not completely off the table.
Chelsea identified his talent while he was at Anderlecht and signed him in 2011. But following just three seasons at Stamford Bridge, he was permanently sold to Everton after a successful loan spell at Goodison Park.

Since then, he has made his mark at Manchester United and Inter Milan. The 28-year-old was a big part of I Nerazzurri winning the Scudetto last season and there’s little doubt that Chelsea fans would want him this season, especially if a deal for Haaland fails.
