Transfer News: Chelsea line up Maxence Lacroix as Raphael Varane alternative
According to transfer news from Express, Chelsea have lined up Maxence Lacroix as an alternative to Raphael Varane. The Wolfsburg man is said to have rejected a new deal with the club and wants to move on.
Chelsea are somewhat trying to assess their defensive options for next season. On the whole, the unit has looked well settled and solid. In the three-man defence, mostly the likes of Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger and Cesar Azpilicueta have been used.
Others like Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma have also been used as and when required. While all these players have done well for Tuchel, he wants to bring in a new central defender in the summer to revamp the squad. One of the names he is considering is Raphael Varane.
However, Chelsea are not putting all their eggs in one basket with Varane, as they have lined up an alternative. Maxence Lacroix of Wolfsburg has attracted the attention of Chelsea with his performances. Better yet for the Blues, he has refused to commit to a new contract in Germany. He has been rated at £26m by Wolfsburg even though they are not keen on a sale.

It has also been claimed that Chelsea have made contact with the player’s representatives over a transfer. It is definitely a good thing to have alternatives for first-choice targets like Varane. Lacroix has impressed in the last few seasons and can be a handy signing for us.
