Transfer News: Chelsea to battle Liverpool for Ryan Gravenberch
According to transfer news from Daily Mail, Chelsea are all set to battle Liverpool for the signature of Ryan Gravenberch. The Ajax starlet is hot property after his exploits for the first-team in Amsterdam and is rated at around £30million.
Ryan Gravenberch is an 18-year-old Dutch midfielder who plays for Eredivisie side Ajax. He started out his youth career at AVV Zeeburgia before moving to Ajax’s youth setup in 2010.
His good form meant that he was promoted to the senior team last season. So far, he has made 51 appearances, contributing to 8 goals and 7 assists.
Liverpool have entered the fray for the midfielder as they view him as a potential replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum. The veteran Dutchman is close to leaving Liverpool as his contract nears its end after this season. There has been no progress in terms of an extension.
Chelsea have a decent unit of central midfielders in their squad. The likes of Mateo Kovacic, N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are first-choice while Billy Gilmour is their deputy. However, refreshing those options could do the club some good.
At just 18 years of age, he has broken into the Ajax senior side. This speaks volumes about his potential. Capable of playing as a defensive midfielder as well, Gravenberch would be a fine addition to the club.
