News: Clinton Morrison claims Chelsea need to drop Timo Werner

According to news from Metro, Clinton Morrison believes that Chelsea need to drop Timo Werner from the side. The German forward was handed another start against Porto but failed to provide anything of note as the other attackers shone around him.

It seems like Timo Werner really can’t catch a break. Despite only joining the club this season, he has failed to match his previously high standards. With two goals since November, it does tell you the story.

As Chelsea put one foot in the semi-finals with a convincing first-leg win, Timo Werner was hooked off with around 25 minutes to go. Former Premier League striker Morrison believes that the forward could do with some time away from the starting XI.

‘Chelsea have got other attacking options – it just depends on how long Tuchel wants to stick with Timo Werner. Listen, Werner is not a bad player. You don’t become a bad player overnight.

It’s just at the moment, he’s getting into positions and not being clinical. Maybe he needs a bit of time out of the team and he can make an impact coming off the bench.’

It could be the case that Werner needs some time away from the glare of the starting XI. A couple of cameos off the bench might do him some good. Chelsea will next face Crystal Palace at the weekend before the second leg against Porto in a week’s time.
