Blues confirm Ulises Davila signing …

The Blues have confirmed the signing of Mexico Under-20 international Ulises Davila from Chivas Guadalajara.

Davila is the latest youngster signed by Andre Villas-Boas, he follows the arrivals of Oriol Romeu, Romelu Lukaku and Thibaut Courtois.

Follwoing the 20-year-old attacking midfielder signing a five-year, technical director Michael Emenalo told the club’s website:

“Ulises has been a highly-scouted player by a lot of clubs, and has made great progress in the last couple of tournaments we have seen him play in. We are delighted to have been able to get this deal done.

Before adding: “Chivas is a superb club with a strong reputation in player development and world football, and we are confident Ulises will be able to continue his fast development to become an important Chelsea first-team player.”

    I have never seen this guy play and admit that the very little I have heard about him is from various forums. I certainly hope he is good and is 'one for the future'. A couple of issues and points I would like to raise though is firstly 'who's' signing is he? Has he been bought on AVB's say so or the clubs' via its various scouts/advisors? Secondly, what the hell has happened to the millions of pounds that Roman has sunk into our youth set up? Realistically we have Josh MacEachran and possibly Pat Van Aanholt/Ryan Bertrand to show for it so far. Gael kakuta isn't up to scratch yet and I believe has been loaned out (again) but this time to a French outfit and Geoff Bruma loaned out to Hamburg. Some youngsters have been sold for minor fees and many others released. I think Roman Abramovich and CFC could learn a lot from some Serie A clubs like Udinese, Palermo, Napoli etc and Portuguese teams like Porto, Benfica and Sporting Lisbon. Barca certainly seem to have their finger on the world pulse of up and coming talents from around the globe and somehow I feel that we are missing a trick here somewhere? Especially considering that these other clubs (other than Barca) are most probably spending a fraction of their wealth on youth development compared to what Roman and Chelsea are spending. Gripe over and always nice to see/hear that youngsters of reputed talent are being signed by the club.

    The scouting network seems to be developing, there are good youngsters being signed but as you say there are very few positives coming from the current youth set-up bar Josh.

    It seems strange that we have let so many good youngsters go, and there does not seem to be any buy-back clauses like Barcelona have started to include in Deals.

    Hopefully, the Blues will continue to bring in youth but start to get them at a cheaper price and younger so that they can develop in England and enjoy some loan moves before moving into the team.

    England is a hard place to move to, players should be given a a year in the Championship / League One and then another with a Premier League team where they get to play most weeks and will then be ready to play.

    As for the signing, I think it was AVB's.
