Chelsea News: Sam Allardyce reveals that West Brom targeted Edouard Mendy
According to news from Metro, Sam Allardyce revealed that West Brom went after Chelsea keeper Edouard Mendy after his error in the first goal.. The Baggies boss was proud that his side kept the pressure on Mendy as they managed to ship 5 goals past him.
The Blues were handed their first loss under Thomas Tuchel after 14 games as West Brom ran riot. The Baggies did go down early but a red card for Thiago Silva meant that they held a numerical advantage after the 30-minute mark.
By half-time, they had the lead and three more were added in the second half. Mount could only add a consolation goal for us. It was surely a surprising result but West Brom made the most of their chances and capitalised on the mistakes made by Chelsea.
‘Big Sam’ pointed out that his side targeted the Blues’ shot-stopper and came away with the goals.
‘That’s why we played two split up front with Matheus Pereira and Mbaye. The press worked very, very well and there is something with their goalkeeper who can be rash. He can rush out.
If you saw the first goal we scored, he came dashing to the edge of his box and didn’t get anywhere near. So we felt every time it went back to the goalie we’d put him under pressure as well.’

Mendy has been largely solid in the time he has been at the club. While it would be hard to fault him for the goals, he was often caught out of position for the goals as the West Brom forwards made merry.
This could be termed as a one-off and it is highly unlikely that he will be displaced as the first-choice keeper.
