Chelsea News: Blues ready to extend Thiago Silva contract

According to news from The Sun, Chelsea are ready to extend the stay of Thiago Silva at the club by one more year. The veteran Brazilian has become an important part of the side since his arrival from PSG this season.

The 36-year-old joined Chelsea this summer and despite his age, he has seamlessly adapted to the fast-paced nature of the Premier League. He has already played more than 20 games this season. However, he has missed a few games with injuries as Andreas Christensen took over in the interim.

Thiago Silva of Chelsea leaves the pitch injured as Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel looks on during the Premier League behind closed doors match between Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, White Hart Lane, England on 4 February 2021.

Currently, the former PSG man finds himself on the sidelines with a hamstring issue but talks of a contract were already underway. The 36-year-old has a one-year extension in his contract, which can be triggered by mutual agreement. It has now been said that he is ready to commit to another season at the club after the current one.

Silva’s experience and leadership have been visible on the pitch and Chelsea look a far more secure side with him in the line-up. Chelsea have kept 9 league clean sheets out of the 17 games he has played so far.

It is definitely good news that Silva is willing to extend his stay with the club. While he isn’t exactly a long-term option, his presence for another season could allow Chelsea to funnel transfer funds to other areas of requirement.
