Transfer News: Chelsea interested in signing Jesus Corona
According to transfer news from SIC Noticias (h/t chelseafc.com), Chelsea are said to be interested in signing Jesus Corona. The Blues are said to be keeping tabs on the Porto midfielder for close to two years now.
Profile
Jesus Corona is a 27-year-old Mexican wide midfielder who currently plays for FC Porto in the Liga NOS. He started his youth career at Monterrey in 2008 and moved to the senior side within 3 years.
Two years later, he left for FC Twente and managed to rack up decent numbers. In 51 games, he scored 13 and assisted 5.
After two seasons, he joined FC Porto and has settled in the team since then, managing 31 goals and 66 assists in 261 games. He is a very versatile player who can play as a right-back or right-midfielder if required.
He is an experienced campaigner for the national team too, with 45 caps and 8 goals to his name.
Chelsea’s interest in the player
Apparently, there is a clause in Corona’s contract that will reduce his valuation every year. Chelsea were interested in the player last season during the pandemic. However, his agent confirmed that there was no formal approach from any club.
‘There have been conversations with several clubs, but with the emergence of Covid-19 everything changed. They asked about his situation. But the same thing happened with other clubs, although none of them exercised a formal approach.’

With Tuchel employing a back-three, Jesus Corona can be a handy addition to the side. While Marcos Alonso has looked good at left wing-back, the same cannot be said about the right.
Reece James is a full-back while Callum Hudson-Odoi has been shoehorned into that role. Signing a natural fit like Corona would serve the club well.
