Kepa dropped by Luis Enrique for Spain’s WC Qualifiers
According to Football.london, Chelsea shot-stopper Kepa Arrizabalaga has been excluded from Spain’s WC qualifiers squad. It is very likely the case that his lack of minutes played a huge part in the snub from Luis Enrique.
The likes of David De Gea, Robert Sanchez and Unai Simon have been chosen as the three keepers for the three upcoming WC qualifiers against Greece, Kosovo and Georgia.
While Kepa was hovering around as the first choice prior to this season, he has slipped down the order at Chelsea and that could be a huge reason for his exclusion from at least these games.
Enrique did confirm that the squad selection for Euro 2020 is not yet final and the likes of Kepa could still be in contention. The biggest problem for Kepa now is the form of Edouard Mendy. The summer signing has been the first choice since joining under Lampard and now Tuchel.
Under Tuchel, Kepa has been given a second chance to stake his claim. He has been given some more game time compared to the earlier parts of the season. However, Mendy has largely donned the gloves since Tuchel has been in charge.

Between now and the season’s end, it looks highly unlikely that Kepa’s status as the second keeper would change unless Mendy suffers any injury. He will have very rare games to present his case and hope that it will be enough to at least get him into the squad for the summer tournament.
