Chelsea board feel ‘vindicated’ over Thomas Tuchel appointment after improvement in three players
According to ESPN, the Chelsea board is very pleased with Thomas Tuchel for having a major impact on three players that were previously struggling at the club.
Tuchel was brought in to replace club legend Frank Lampard towards the end of January after a torrid run of results. There were questions raised over the former PSG man’s appointment, particularly at the expense of a revered figure like Lampard.
However, Tuchel has gone about establishing himself as a favourite at the club in quick fashion. Indeed, the German has led Chelsea to a 11-game unbeaten streak in all competitions, which has meant that they are strong contenders in the top four race and stand a chance of progressing to the UCL quarter-finals as well.
And, it is now claimed that the Chelsea board is feeling vindicated over their decision to sack Lampard and appoint Tuchel as his successor. A club source told ESPN:
“It shows we know what we are doing.”
While the results have been certainly pleasing, the board has been left impressed by the turnaround in the form of some players – three in particular that had struggled under Lampard, those being Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Marcos Alonso.
Werner and Havertz, following their big-money arrivals last summer, had found it hard to settle down under Lampard. Alonso, meanwhile, had been frozen out of the first-team picture following a falling out with the ex-Blues boss.
But, the trio has turned things around under the new manager. Werner may not still be scoring freely but the all-round improvement is there for everyone to see. Alonso, meanwhile, has been relishing in the wing-back role while Havertz showed his quality against Everton last time out.
