Thomas Tuchel praises Timo Werner after Chelsea beat Sheffield United

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has praised Timo Werner for his performance in the win over Sheffield United.

Chelsea picked up their third win in four games under the German tactician, beating the Blades 2-1 at Bramall Lane, courtesy goals from Mason Mount and Jorginho.

Werner, whose goal drought extended to 14 games, put in a bright display, notably starting the move and then getting the assist for Mount’s goal in the first half. The former RB Leipzig man then won the penalty from which Jorginho scored to win the game.

Werner’s performance got him the Man of the Match award on the night and manager Tuchel was left impressed by his striker, even though the dry spell in front of goal continued.

“When he plays like this we are very happy. It is a big step forward. He won a penalty against Tottenham and again today so we are very happy.

“I feel he is stronger and stronger every day and he is more and more free. Today I could really feel him on the pitch, absolutely in the game mentally and physically.”

The manager praised Werner for his efforts on the night, insisting that if he kept doing what he is, the goals will eventually come for the German.

“And he was decisive, and this is the most important because if he can continue like this the goals will come. I’m very sure.”

Werner had to come off in the 75th minute against Sheffield United, raising concerns of an injury. Tuchel, however, dismissed it as just a dead leg and nothing serious.

After a torrid spell, things are starting to look for Werner. Soon enough, the goals should start flowing as well.
