Thomas Tuchel explains how he plans on getting the best out of Timo Werner

Speaking to the club’s official website, newly-appointed Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has explained how he plans to get the best out of struggling star Timo Werner.

The German tactician took over the reins from Frank Lampard earlier this week, following the sacking of the club legend. In his first match in charge, Tuchel led us to a goalless draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers at home.

As he gets acclimatised to his new position, one of the big tasks for the former Borussia Dortmund and PSG coach will be to get the best out of our marquee signing, Timo Werner.

The German striker arrived at the club in a big-money deal last summer from RB Leipzig. After a promising start to life in London, the 24-year-old has endured a severe dip in form, which has hit his confidence very hard.

Tuchel, though, has his ideas on how he can take Werner back to his best. The German coach is first of all aiming to build the striker’s confidence back and ensure that he stops doubting himself.

“At the moment his face is a bit closed, the weight is on his shoulders. Right now it’s important for him to rebuild his trust in himself, and re-find a smile on his face, and stop doubting himself too much. It’s my job to help him with this.”

The manager further opened up on how he plans to improve Werner’s all-round game and develop him into a better player.

“He is super fast and he likes to play on the last line, very high up but a little bit more to the left so he is half open to the opponents’ goal and can receive balls into the open space.

“Can we develop movements, patterns, behaviour to use his quality in narrow spaces? That’s my job and I’m absolutely convinced we can.”

It remains to be seen if Tuchel can live up to his words and unleash the best version of Werner. Should he get back to his best, there will be no stopping the German forward.
