Roman Abramovich considers Avram Grant return to aid Lampard at Chelsea

A report by TeamTalk (h/t Football.london) states that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is considering a surprising return for former Blues boss Avram Grant in a bid to assist Frank Lampard.

The 65-year-old has recently been working as a football consultant in India. His last prominent job was as a technical director for Indian Super League club North East United.

And now, the Russian owner could bring Grant to Chelsea in some capacity to help out Lampard. The current Blues boss has felt the pressure in recent weeks. (h/t Football.london)

Chelsea have dropped to 9th in the Premier League table after just one win from their last 5 league games. Even worse, they have just 2 wins from their last 8 games in all competitions.

This is in stark contrast to how the Blues started this campaign. After their 2-0 loss to Liverpool in September, Chelsea went on a 17-match unbeaten run in all competitions.

Grant has a wealth of experience

That run ended against Everton on 12th December, where the rot started to begin. Grant, who is now linked with a move to Chelsea, is not short of managerial experience at all.

He has been in management since the 1970s and his long list of clubs also include Chelsea, whom he managed in the 2007/08 season. The Blues did really well under him during that campaign despite not winning a trophy.

Chelsea finished runners-up in the UEFA Champions League, Premier League, as well as the League Cup that season. Grant, of course, also managed Frank Lampard as a player at Chelsea during that spell.

Chelsea’s next assignment is the postponed Premier League game against Fulham on Saturday. The game now looks like a must-win encounter, otherwise the Blues could be in danger of drifting too far away from the top 4.
