Fabrizio Romano: Chelsea not expected to bring in reinforcements this January

Speaking on the Here We Go podcast (subscription required), transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Chelsea will not attempt to buy their way out of problems in the January transfer window.

The Blues are coming off an extravagant summer that saw them splash the cash on major names. Despite a promising start, recent results have seen the side cede ground in the title race.

Chelsea have won just one of their last six Premier League games, putting pressure on manager Frank Lampard. This has seen the team drop from the lofty heights of the summit to the eighth spot they occupy right now.

Chelsea will not be bringing in any new players this January

Any hopes of seeing the club delve once again into the market this month were dashed by Romano. It would appear that Lampard will have to make do with the resources he has at his disposal.

The Blues are expected to be active in selling players rather than bringing in reinforcements this month. With a number of players out of favour at the moment, it remains to be seen who stays and who goes.

Despite not bringing in new players, Lampard has enough quality and strength in depth to turn around the tide.

While the likes of Kai Havertz and Timo Werner continue to struggle, their quality is not in doubt. The onus is now on Lampard to get his misfiring stars to perform once again.

The Blues legend has the backing of the club hierarchy and will be given a chance to put things straight. Still, in the early years of his management career, Lampard has a real chance to showcase just what he is truly made of.

The Blues next face Morecambe in the FA Cup followed by the Premier League clash against Fulham. Anything less than two wins will see the pressure on Lampard amplify.

Romano is widely considered to be a dependable name in the transfer market. Whether the Blues will sieze upon any opprtunity that will present itself remains to be seen.
