Chelsea vs Morecambe FA Cup tie at risk of being postponed

As reported by the Daily Mail, the third round FA Cup fixture between Chelsea and Morecambe could be postponed as the League Two club’s training ground has been shut down for ten days.

Chelsea are penned to take on Morecambe at Stamford Bridge on January 11 in the third round of the FA Cup. However, the game could be in jeopardy as the League Two side were forced to postpone to league games due to a Covid-19 outbreak.

Morecambe were due to play Bolton Wanderers away on December 29 but it was pushed back. The upcoming game away at Bradford on January 2 has also been postponed.

Furthermore, the League Two outfit’s training ground has also been shut down for ten days, with the 10-day self-isolation period starting on December 28. So there are now question marks raised over whether the game against Chelsea will go ahead as per schedule.

Morecambe released a statement earlier this week regarding the situation. However, a decision over the Chelsea game is yet to be taken.

“It is very disappointing that we have had to make this decision but the welfare of our players, staff and opponents remains the number one priority and following detailed conversations with the relevant authorities we have also decided to close our training ground for 10 days as well.”

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has opened up on his team's inconsistency following their late loss against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday.
