Chelsea offer David Alaba a three-year deal

According to transfer expert Nicolo Schira (h/t Daily Star), Chelsea are in talks with Pini Zahavi, the agent of David Alaba, and have tabled a three-year contract for the Bayern Munich defender.

The Austrian defender rejected a contract renewal at his current club as the deal did not meet his wage demands. Bayern have resorted to losing the 28-year-old on a free transfer next summer.

The Austrian international would be open to listening to offers from foreign clubs in January, and Chelsea have reportedly opened negotiations to make Stamford Bridge his next destination.

However, the Blues can expect two hurdles in their pursuit of Alaba. Firstly, Alaba is demanding a four-year contract with wages in the region of an exorbitant £14m per year.

Secondly, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain are both interested in signing the versatile defender and will rival Chelsea for Alaba’s signature. (h/t Daily Star)

Alaba is a versatile defender who can play in an array of defensive and midfield positions, and would undoubtedly be a quality addition to Lampard’s side.

With the 36-year-old Thiago Silva not getting any younger and Antonio Rudiger’s Chelsea future hanging by a thread, David Alaba has the potential to solve Lampard’s defensive headaches for years to come.

Despite links with Chelsea, Bayern Munich’s chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has said that David Alaba is welcome to stay at the club and that a new contract with Bayern remains an opportunity.

“The door is still open a crack. If David wants to stay at Bayern then we have to evaluate how we can find a reasonable solution for both sides.”
