Frank Lampard demands more respect for Chelsea ace Tammy Abraham
According to Sky Sports, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has called for more recognition to striker Tammy Abraham.
The striker enjoyed an excellent start last season that saw him rake in the goals. However, it dried up in the second half of the campaign due to injuries and a loss of form.
To his credit, Abraham has not let it get to him and has shown he is getting back to his best. Having started the season on the bench, Abraham forced his way into the starting line-up.
Once in, he has performed and has scored in all of his last three outings for the club. Lampard believes people often overlook the consistency Abraham showed early last season.
With him looking resurgent, Lampard has called for the striker’s contributions to be recognized.
Having signed Timo Werner in the summer, Abraham was always expected to be the understudy to the German ace. Having started the season that way, he has done well to hold his own.
Lampard believes competing with a player of Werner’s calibre will bring out the best in his young Englishman.
“The whole point of bringing in players like Timo is not only bringing in quality, but to lift others around him, by linking up on the pitch or by squad competition.”
Abraham looks to be thinking along the same lines as he continues to impress. While he is yet to hit the same height as last season, it is heartening to see him make a habit of finding the back of the net.
