Owen Hargreaves claims Frank Lampard will drop Chelsea star, Tammy Abraham

According to the Metro, former England international Owen Hargreaves believes Frank Lampard will drop Chelsea star, Tammy Abraham once Christian Pulisic is back fit.

The 23-year-old led the line for the Blues against Newcastle United on Saturday. He scored the second goal of the night as Chelsea went on to win the game 2-0.

The youngster has now scored three times for Chelsea in the league this season. With Timo Werner and Olivier Giroud at the club, competition for spots is high.

Hargreaves believes once Christian Pulisic returns, Abraham will lose his spot in the starting lineup. The American international is injured once again and is currently not in contention. (h/t Metro)

“Timo Werner is undroppable. But I think he’s making himself a really good squad player.”

Hargreaves believes once Pulisic is back, Frank Lampard will have him and Hakim Ziyech operate behind Timo Werner. The German ace is the club’s top striker and has rediscovered his scoring touch. (h/t Metro)

It is clear that Hargreaves believes Lampard does not see Abraham as a starter once all his players are fit. However, he believes the youngster has what it takes to be a key backup player. (h/t Metro)

“Tammy is going to be really important as a squad player.”

Abraham proved last season that on his day he is a clinical forward who knows how to score. An injury and a loss of form saw him drop below Giroud towards the end, but he has shown improvement this campaign.

Hargreaves’ view was also echoed by Andy Townsend. He believes as a youngster, Abraham should do what he can for the team and fulfil his role in the squad. (h/t Metro)

He has years left in him and could turn into an excellent player if he continues to develop.
