The Chelsea FC ship sank further down as they were beaten 1-0 at home by last season’s Championship winners Bournemouth.
Despite the comparative difference in class between these two sides, the Blues failed to enjoy huge dominance over their opponents, particularly during a first half in which it was hard to identify which of the two were the reigning Premier League champions.
The London based side have now lost 8 times in the Premier League this season and have a tough task ahead as it is very evident that it’s the lowest point of their season.
CHELSEA PLAYER RATINGS:
Thibaut Courtois 7/10
Made a notable return to first-team action and the Belgian looked assured as he made multiple saves to deny Bournemouth in the first half. But he was left stranded for the visitor’s winner.
Branislav Ivanovic 5/10
Looked muted for much of the match and gave away the ball far too easily and it was only after the hour mark that his contributions began to improve.
Kurt Zouma 6/10
Didn’t have the best of games and failed to mark Murray for the Bournemouth winner. His pace, however, was important in frustrating the visitors’ counter plays.
Gary Cahill 7/10
His form didn’t drop like some of his teammates and was unfortunate to be on the losing team.
Baba Rahman 6/10
Did well going forward and contributing to Chelsea’s attacking play, but left spaces which were exploited by the opposition players.
Nemanja Matic 5/10
Really struggled to impose himself in the midfield and allowed the opposition midfielders to run riot against him. Should have scored from a decent Willian’s cross but wasn’t ready to head past the post for a goal.
Cesc Fabregas 5/10
Failed to control proceedings in the middle of the park and his struggles in this season still continues.
Willian 7/10
Was, as usual this term, one of Chelsea’s best players and offered up several chances for his profligate teammates and especially his footwork and balance were key on several attacks.
Oscar 5/10
Did not provide any offensive thrust and was withdrawn at half-time for Costa.
Pedro Rodriguez 6/10
Worked really hard to get forward and try and create goal-scoring opportunities- coming close to scoring on several occasions-while also setting up Hazard for a superb chance. Even tracked back and defended whenever necessary.
Eden Hazard 5/10
Flopped again as a false 9 before the break, but improved as he came a little deeper after Costa’s introduction in the second half.
Substitute:
Diego Costa 5/10
Introduced at the start of the second half in Oscar’s place and was a more assured target than Hazard up front.
Bertrand Traore 5/10
Came in to replace Baba Rahman at left back late on.
Loic Remy 5/10
Came in place of Fabregas for the final seven minutes.
