Inter Milan will not be signing Chelsea star Marcos Alonso
According to Sempre Inter (h/t Football.london), Inter Milan CEO Beppe Marotta has confirmed that they will not be signing Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso this summer.
The Spaniard was touted for a move away from Stamford Bridge with the Nerazzurri among his suitors.
“Absolutely not on the agenda. He won’t come.”
Having brought in English international Ben Chilwell, Alonso is at best a backup for the talented 23-year-old. Chilwell has enjoyed a fine start to life at Chelsea. He already has one goal and two assists in his first three appearances.
The fact that Chilwell was injured when he joined Chelsea, Alonso had a chance to stake his claim as a competitor.
He has however failed to make the most of his opportunity and endured a first-half horror show away to West Bromwich Albion.
Taken off at half-time, he was admonished by Frank Lampard for watching the match in the team bus and not with his teammates on the sideline.
Despite also being linked with the likes of Sevilla, there has been a lack of progress in any deal that will take Alonso away from Chelsea.
With just a matter of hours left before the window closes, it appears as if the 29-tear-old will remain at the Bridge. This is exacerbated by Juventus’ interest in Emerson Palmieri.
If the Italian joins the Old Lady, it leaves Alonso as the club’s sole senior specialist backup to Chilwell. The prospect of also losing him will leave us short of options.
