Frank Lampard wants Declan Rice and Nico Melamed transfers

According to the Express, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard wants to make two more signings before the summer transfer window closes on Monday.

It has been an eventful window for Chelsea so far, with as many as eight signings being made. The Blues have brought in Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Malang Sarr, Thiago Silva, Kai Havertz and Edouard Mendy, while Xavier Mbuyamba has also joined from Barcelona.

Nevertheless, it seems like manager Lampard is still not done with his spending spree this summer. With less than three days left for the window to close, the Chelsea boss is eyeing two more signings as per the aforementioned report.

It is claimed that the former Blues’ midfielder is keen on signing Declan Rice from West Ham United, while he also has his eyes on Espanyol’s Nico Melamed. (h/t Express)

Rice has been linked with a move to Chelsea for quite some time now, with Lampard pushing for the 21-year-old’s signature. A bid could be made before the transfer window closes, but West Ham’s £80m price tag is a hindrance. (h/t Express)

Melamed, on the other hand, will be a much more affordable option, with his release clause standing at just £7.2m (€8m). However, a number of top clubs are lining up a move for the 19-year-old Espanyol youth academy graduate, including Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. (h/t Express)

A move for Rice makes sense as he can offer depth and quality in the defensive midfield position as well as the centre-back slot. Signing Melamed, however, might not be a priority given that Chelsea already are well-stocked with attack-minded midfielders.

It remains to be seen if there will be any more incomings at the Bridge before the transfer window closed.
