Chelsea could have to face Liverpool without Christian Pulisic
According to ESPN, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has revealed that star winger Christian Pulisic is a doubt for our clash against Liverpool next weekend.
The Blues face off against the defending champions in their first home game of the seson at the Bridge. Both sides have won their first game ahead of what could be a clash between two potential title contenders.
One man who could be forced to watch from the sidelines is our new number 10. Pulisic was also not included in the matchday squad against Brighton yesterday.
The American international was arguably the club’s best player last season. He particularly caught the eye against Liverpool, who we played four times last season.
Pulisic shone in the UEFA Super Cup and the 5-3 loss at Anfield and would have been a bane once again for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
“It would have been a big ask for today but he’s had to take a few steps back. That’s one that I don’t have big news on at the minute. We’ll see.”
Wait and Watch?
The 21-year-old has not featured for the Blues since he went off injured in the FA Cup final against Arsenal last season.
There was hope that he would be fit to face the Seagulls in our season opener. That proved to be wrong and he now faces a race against time to face the Reds.
While the Blues have strengthened this summer, it will take some time for our new signings to gel and come to terms with the style of play. Having the abilities of Pulisic would have been a massive weapon in our efforts to dethrone Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Klopp and Lampard have enjoyed some friction since their disagreement in our 5-3 loss at Anfield last season. That has shown little chance of abating after their recent disagreement regarding Chelsea’s spending.
While it is troubling that Klopp has been able to get under Lampard’s skin so easily, it remains to be seen if the Pulisic news is some sort of mind game from the Chelsea boss.
