Frank Lampard hits out at rival manager over transfer comments

Frank Lampard responds to Jurgen Klopp’s comments

As reported by the Metro, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has claimed that he found Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp’s over the club’s spending ‘amusing’.

Klopp, having led Liverpool to the Premier League title last season, hasn’t been backed in the transfer window thus far. The Reds were keen on signing Timo Werner, but were beaten by the Blues to his signing. (h/t Metro)

Till date, their only signing is Greek full-back Kostas Tsimikas. At the same time Chelsea have made seven signings in the transfer window, with an eighth one on the way.

Klopp took a dig at Chelsea’s spending

Klopp, perhaps a bit bitter over not being backed by the club, took a dig at Chelsea and Manchester City, claiming that all clubs weren’t owned by ‘oligarchs and countries’. (h/t Metro)

Responding to those comments, Lampard has claimed that he was amused by what his rival had to say, before highlighting the fact that Liverpool, too, have spent heavily in recent years. (h/t Metro)

“I was less annoyed with it, I found it more, slightly amusing I would say. There is no point in doing the maths too much with it, we all know Liverpool have spent at a high level. They have spent huge amounts.”

Indeed, Liverpool have spent heavily over the signings of Virgil van Dijk, Alisson Becker, Naby Keita, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane in the recent past.

Perhaps, it is just a situation of Klopp trying to deflect his own club’s lack of investment and how that may affect their title defence this season. They were shown up by the newly-promoted Leeds United in the season opener, even though managed to edge out a victory.
