Chelsea narrowly beat Bournemouth in their recent Premier League game, with Christopher Nkunku providing them a late respite.
As they gear up to kick off their Europa Conference League campaign this week, the Blues will hope their ever-reliant star Cole Palmer comes to their aid once again.
Regarding Palmer, one former Premier League midfielder has made a bold claim of late.
Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson believes Chelsea will sell Cole Palmer if they ever stand to get at least £100 million for him.
In a recent appearance on Sky, the former Arsenal midfielder had this to say about Chelsea’s policy regarding moving players on:
“If Nicolas Jackson scores 25 goals next season, they will sell him. That’s their whole idea of signing these players. If Cole Palmer keeps doing what he’s doing and becomes a £100m player, they will sell him. That’s how it works.”
Merson, as quoted by Football London.
Arriving from Man City last summer for £42.5 million, Palmer was easily the Blues’ best player last term as he delivered 27 goals and 15 assists in 48 appearances across all competitions. This season, he has picked things up exactly where he left off, with a goal and four assists in his first six games.
Palmer was recently handed a new contract by Chelsea, which currently fetches him £130,000 per week.
In the speculative transfer market, a player is worth whatever the other team are willing to pay for them regardless of their market valuation.
Given Palmer’s age, form, contract length, and current valuation, it is very likely that he is taken off Chelsea’s hands in the coming seasons for a three-figure sum, especially if the club’s internal turmoil continues hampering their success on the pitch, which also a likely possibility.
Merson’s right on this one; if Chelsea get a big offer, Palmer will go.
