Enzo Maresca speaks out on the three big Chelsea omissions from Europa League squad

Chelsea have already announced their squad for the upcoming league stage clashes of the UEFA Europa Conference League 2024/25. Several new signings have been named in the table. However, adding a twist, manager Enzo Maresca decided to drop three of his star young players.

The club manager’s out-of-the-box move sparked big conversations amongst football fans and pundits alike.

While the Pensiones will get a chance to change their player list for the European competition in February, they have decided to omit Cole Palmer, Romeo Lavia, and Wesley Fofana from it as of now.

Maresca opens up on dropping Palmer, Fofana, and Lavia from the squad

Chelsea boss Maresca recently opened up on why he dropped his three top-class attackers Palmer, Lavia, and Fofana from the Conference League premier squad. The Italian clearly said that he intends to save his key front liners from injury.

Shedding more light on Palmer, he mentioned that the Englishman is fit, fine, and good to go now.

The former Leicester City manager opined while talking to Chelsea’s club media:

“There’s no technical reason.. we just try to protect them as Cole Palmer is fit, he’s fine and ready”

“I also spoke with Jadon Sancho and João Felix before they joined and I told them; if you come here and don’t work properly, then you’re not going to play. It’s clear”

The absence of players like Palmer, Lavia, and Fofana from the Conference League squad is unlikely to affect the club. They already boast a heavy depth in their ranks. Players like Joao Felix, Pedro Neto, Noni Madueke, and last but not least, Jadon Sancho are present there for them.

All the three players are a crucial part of Enzo Maresca’s project

The club needs to reward all of their players with a healthy amount of game time so that they can stay in proper touch. More importantly, these stars must deliver for the club when they need them the most.

It would be a matter of excitement to witness how the Pensioners’ recruits start to roll off for their club and deliver on a constant note.
