Chelsea star was not forced out of club, sporting director says

Chelsea’s Sancho was not forced out of United – Ashworth

Chelsea signed Manchester United star Jadon Sancho on a year-long loan with the obligation to make his transfer permanent next year for a sum in the range of £20 and £25 million subject to where they finish in the Premier League in this campaign.

He was unveiled in front of the Stamford Bridge faithful when the Blues faced Crystal Palace on matchday three and is expected to make his debut when the Chels take on Bournemouth after the international break.

It was presumed that Sancho left Man United due to his fallout with Erik ten Hag. Though the duo put their differences behind them this summer, speculations continued that it may indeed have been last year’s disagreement which led to this year’s exit.

However, the Red Devils’ sporting director has refuted such claims as he said (h/t Express):

“Nothing to do with that (fallout with Ten Hag). It was a decision that we made – if it’s right for Jadon and it’s right for us to move on.He wanted to explore the opportunity at Chelsea, like Scott McTominay wanted to explore the opportunity at Napoli, like Aaron Wan-Bissaka wanted to explore the opportunity at West Ham.”

Sancho spent the latter part of last season on loan at Borussia Dortmund, with whom he reached the Champions League final after a specifically impressive display against Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-final of the European Cup.

However, his minutes since returning to Old Trafford were largely limited in the early parts of the season. While he missed United’s win over Fulham due to a ear infection, he was left out of the squad by Ten Hag against Brighton in the week after in a technical call.

Given how the likes of Antony and Marcus Rashford have been backed by the manager despite performing questionably week in and week out, it is hard to argue against Sancho seeking a way out of the club to reignite his career elsewhere when the manager was not indicating his plans to count on him.

Chelsea have brokered a fabulous deal for him as even if they have to pay £25 million to United in 2025, it is a great investment considering his age and potential.

Sancho also will be determined to prove himself with Chelsea and therefore, the union between the player and the club will be one to watch with a lot of excitement.
