Another high-profile player falls victim to international duty injuries

International break has been a controversial topic in the recent past, especially when you have players scrapping along their private jets only three weeks into the new season. We have seen multiple high-profile players getting injured in the recent break, with the likes of Martin Odegaard, Riccardo Calafiori, and Nathan Ake being at the forefront of the players picking injuries.

While Chelsea haven’t had such concerns about any injuries just yet, however, the Blues may find themselves on the back foot as regards their goalkeeper Filip Jørgensen.

Filip Jørgensen had been away representing Denmark U21s in the break as the 22-year-old featured for Steffen Højer’s men in both the fixtures. He was part of the defeat to Iceland U21 last week as well as the 5-0 win over the Czech Republic U21 on Monday; albeit, Jørgensen was forced to prematurely end his inclusion ‘due to an injury’.

Cremonese’s Andreas Jungdal took field for the Blues goalkeeper in yesterday’s UEFA U21 qualifiers, and following the conclusion of the game, Højer was quizzed about the 22-year-old’s injury.

The manager spoke about his chat with the Chelsea shot stopper; however, he relayed his unawareness about the depth of the injury, stating that he couldn’t continue at the time. Speaking in his post-match press conference, he said:

“I don’t really know. He’s being checked. I don’t know how bad it went, but it was certainly  bad enough for him to go off. I just asked if he was okay. He was annoyed that he had to go off, but hopefully it is not something that is really wrong.”

Injury not serious?

Campo states that no Chelsea player has taken up any injuries and doesn’t mention anything about Jørgensen’s setback. This could be positive signs for the Blues, as the injury wouldn’t be as serious as earlier anticipated.

Chelsea signed Jørgensen from Villarreal on a seven-year deal in the recently concluded summer window.

And he has been donning the responsibilities for Chelsea in between the posts in the UEFA Conference League; however, Enzo Maresca has preferred Sanchez over the Dane in the Premier League.

Hopefully, the injury isn’t as serious as earlier anticipated, and he is ready for the midweek clashes soon.
