Raheem Sterling wants to stay at Chelsea amid exit links

According to GIVEMESPORT reporter Ben Jacobs, Raheem Sterling wants to stay at Chelsea beyond this summer.

Raheem Sterling joined the Blues from Manchester City two years ago in a €56.2 million deal, but the forward has failed to live up to the lofty expectations at Stamford Bridge compared to his fantastic form at the Etihad Stadium.

The England international’s position at the club has come under scrutiny as he is set to face intense competition for a place in Enzo Maresca’s first XI from the likes of Mykhaylo Mudryk, Noni Madueke, Cole Palmer, Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku and Marc Guiu.

Earlier this month, Football Transfers reported that the Pensioners are prepared to sell the 29-year-old this summer as they look to recoup some of the €56.2 million invested in his services in 2022 and trim their wage bill to continue their squad rebuild under Enzo Maresca.

However, Ben Jacobs has come up with a different update on Sterling’s future. He reports the English winger is happy to stay at Chelsea and that he is regarded as being suited to Maresca’s style of play.

“Raheem Sterling wants to stay at Chelsea and is viewed as a profile that fits Enzo Maresca’s style,” Jacobs wrote for GIVEMESPORT.

Jacobs’ latest update effectively rules out Sterling’s potential summer exit from Stamford Bridge. The 29-year-old forward has three years left on his contract, and while the Blues would have supposedly wanted to move him and his high £325,000 per week wages off the book after disappointing returns, the player’s desire to stay and compete as well as his profile being suited to the new head coach’s playing style should force the club to take a U-turn.

If Sterling can get back his mojo, he’d still be counted as a valuable asset to Chelsea. The ex-Manchester City star can play anywhere across the front line—such sort of versatility is something Maresca wants to see from his offensive players as he employs a possession-based, attacking style of football at the club.

At 29, the Kingston-born forward is still at the peak of his powers and can contribute immensely in a proper structure and system at Chelsea. After two underwhelming seasons by his high standards, Sterling deserves another chance to cut the mustard at Stamford Bridge.

He bagged 10 goals and provided eight assists in all competitions this past season, and if Sterling can keep himself fit and quickly adapt to Maresca’s style of play, we could witness a highly productive campaign from him in 2024/25.
