According to a report from The Telegraph, Crystal Palace are considering meeting Chelsea’s asking price for Trevoh Chalobah with Marc Guéhi almost out the door.
Guéhi has been linked with an exit all summer and is edging towards a move to Newcastle United.
Chelsea are adamant about sticking to the £25 million they have put on Chalobah, with West Ham also in the mix for his signature.
Chalobah had an injury-ridden campaign last term as he made just 17 appearances for the Blues across all competitions.
The 25-year-old currently has a £50k-per-week contract with Chelsea which is set to run until June 2028.
Palace are not only losing Guéhi, they are also likely to lose Joachim Andersen this summer.
With two first-team departures imminent, given the level Palace are at and their targets for next season, they could do a lot worse than get in someone like Chalobah.
The Englishman has thoroughly demonstrated his ability as a reliable defensive operator in the league and can operate in any centre-back position, even out wide, and is adept in the midfield. With four years remaining in his contract, £25 million is almost a bargain in this market.
Palace are looking exciting in their forward areas despite having lost Michael Olise, with Eberechi Eze also possibly leaving Selhurst Park, but they’ll be doing their defensive foundations a lot of good if they can bring in someone as reliable and flexible as Chalobah.
