As the summer transfer window progresses, so does Chelsea’s spending spree.
The Blues have already confirmed eight first-team signings this time round, with Mike Penders confirmed to be joining them next year.
Now, renowned Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on another Chelsea move.
Pedro Neto set for Chelsea move
Wolves wide forward Pedro Neto is on his way to Chelsea, as confirmed by Romano. The deal for the Portugal international is all but done, with a package north of £50 million agreed between the two clubs.
With his move to Chelsea, Neto is set to call time on a five-year stint in the Black Country, where he arrived from Lazio for €17.9 million.
His latest contract at Molineux, fetching him £50k per week, was set to run until June 2027.
Neto represented Wolves 135 times, scoring 14 goals and assisting another 24.
The club that won’t stop giving
Why are Chelsea signing more players? I doubt at this point even the shareholders have a coherent idea that could placate the gawking masses.
Did Chelsea need Pedro Neto? Well, did Chelsea really need any of the players they have purchased this term? If you can pick them out on the fingers of one hand, the point is made.
Congratulations to Wolves for getting this deal over the line. Congratulations to Neto for the contract bump he is about to receive.
Just so we’re clear: Neto has missed 112 games for club and country in the last five years, 23 last season alone. One does hope he has a more injury-free career going forward as he strives to offer whatever he can in an environment currently not set up for long-term success.
