Chelsea suffer a blow in their hopes of securing Deadline Day signing from rivals

Chelsea handed a big blow in pursuit of Jadon Sancho

Chelsea had been interested in signing Jadon Sancho in the last week of the transfer window and were put into the driving seat for his signatures just some hours ago as Juventus had reportedly pulled out of the running due to Manchester United’s demands.

Soon afterwards, Fabrizio Romano claimed that the Englishman had given his ‘green light’ to joining the west Londoners in a transfer that seemed imminent before the closure of the transfer window later today, August 30th.

It has now emerged through Romano himself that Sancho is expected to stay at Old Trafford. Erik ten Hag commented on his future in his pre-match press conference prior to Liverpool’s visit to Man United as he said the following:

“As far as I know, I expect him to stay, yeah. We are happy with him. We need a good squad. We have to play many games until January. After the break we play every third day so we need options.”

It is understandable why Ten Hag would be keen on having Sancho at his disposal as this season could have an all-time high number of fixtures for most clubs participating in the European competitions.

The former Borussia Dortmund superstar’s stay with the Mancunians is a blessing in disguise for the Chelsea, as they already have a number of wingers, including two new ones in Joao Felix and Pedro Neto, and another one’s purchase would have been a very futile expense even if he were a player of Sancho’s calibre.

The Blues’ only downside about not being able to get their hands on Sancho is the fact that they will need to get rid of Ben Chilwell and Raheem Sterling in separate transfers. However, there will be a race against time with very few hours remaining until the closure of the window.

There is still no worthy update about their pursuit of a striker but a number nine’s arrival would be a big boost for the offensive unit.
