As reported by Football London, Barcelona have submitted a new bid to RB Leipzig for their Spanish midfielder Dani Olmo which is likely to be accepted, leaving Chelsea hanging in the process.
The 26-year-old has been linked with a move away from Germany all summer, well before he starred in La Roja‘s triumphant run at the recently-concluded UEFA Euro 2024.
The latest proposal sent by the Catalan giants could amount to around £55 million, with the player offered a six-year contract.
Olmo had a €60m release clause in his €9.43m-per-year contract which expired on July 20.
The seemingly-imminent Barcelona move will bring about a homecoming for Olmo, who is a graduate of their famed La Masia academy and moved to Croatia to kick off his senior career with Dinamo Zagreb, whom he represented for six years before moving to Leipzig in 2020.
Chelsea may have missed out on Olmo, but the truth is they did not really need him in the first place.
Not every shiny asset on the market needs to be acquired just for the sake of it, which is a nail that needs to be hammered in the Chelsea wall time and again until we see them understand the importance of patience as a virtue and let things take their course.
This was out of their control, but Chelsea are nevertheless better off having missed out on Olmo.
