Chelsea have agreed a £34.5m fee with Atletico Madrid for striker Samu Omorodion
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are planning to schedule medical for Samu Omorodion in France after agreeing to a fee with Atletico Madrid.
The Blues have agreed a fee of £34.5m with Atletico Madrid for the transfer of Samu Omorodion. He is set to pen a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge after the Olympics men’s football gold medal match in Paris, with Conor Gallagher heading to Atletico Madrid in what is not a swap deal.
On his official X account, Fabrizio Romano claims that Chelsea are preparing for Omorodion’s medical tests on Friday ahead of finalising a deal.
“Understand Chelsea are planning to book medical for Samu Omorodion in Paris today. Deal done for £34.5m to Atlético Madrid, Omorodion will sign seven-year contract after medical,” Romano tweeted.
Chelsea struggled to perform consistently under former boss Mauricio Pochettino last season, owing majorly to a glut of injury issues. Pochettino paid the price dearly for the club’s failure to finish in the top four and subsequently miss out on a place in the Champions League, with the board sacking the Argentinean after the season.
Barring Cole Palmer’s extraordinary productivity, the Pensioners struggled for a consistent source of goals from their forwards. Christopher Nkunku was signed from RB Leipzig, but the French forward struggled with injuries throughout his first season at Stamford Bridge. Raheem Sterling, Mykhaylo Mudryk and Noni Madueke contributed very little to the cause, while Nicolas Jackson failed to live up to the hype after securing his transfer from Villarreal last summer.
Despite netting 17 goals in 44 appearances—including 14 in 35 in the Premier League—Jackson was extremely profligate in front of goal in his debut season at Stamford Bridge. In a bid to support the Senegalese up top in the 2024/25 season, Chelsea signed youngsters Marc Guiu and Omari Kellyman earlier this summer.
However, both Guiu and Kellyman should be deemed as more investments for the future rather than present first-team players. Thus, there was a clear need for another No.9 and the Blues have done well by agreeing to sign Omorodion from Atletico Madrid.

Omorodion spent last season on loan at Alaves, where he netted eight goals in 34 La Liga games and caught the eye with his speed, physicality, aerial prowess and hold-up play. On the back of a strong La Liga season, he was selected in the Spain squad for the Paris Olympic games. The 20-year-old helped Spain beat Morocco 2-1 to reach the final, where they will play France on Friday evening.
The Chelsea owners are continuing to back the transfer policy of signing young players with high potential on big contracts, with Omorodion highly likely to be the next signing coming through the door.
