Chelsea forward David Datro Fofana spent last season on loan at Bundesliga side Union Berlin and Premier League minnows Burnley. He had short spells at both clubs and is expected to be on the way out once again.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Leicester City, VfB Stuttgart and Villarreal are all considering a transfer for him before the closure of the transfer window. There is the possibility that the 21-year-old leaves west London on an initial loan along with the obligation to make his move permanent next year.
The youngster arrived at Stamford Bridge from Norwegian side Molde last year. However, he has failed to make an impression at Cobham or on his two loan spells, thereby compelling Enzo Maresca to overlook him ahead of the 2024/25 season.
There is a heavy competition for places in the Chelsea offence. Nicolas Jackson is already head and shoulders above Datro Fofana in terms of quality and the Blues have even added Samu Omorodion to their cavalry. It is not entirely ruled out that the Spaniard’s signing is followed up by the blockbuster arrival of Victor Osimhen.
Chelsea are well-covered even on the right and left flanks with a host of experienced as well as young options, which means the 21-year-old Ivory Coast international’s best case scenario is to leave the Premier League giants to play more regularly as well as to continue his development at another club.
Leicester City are willing to offer him a stay in the Premier League whereas Stuttgart would be a fantastic destination given the number of young players who build their careers in the Bundesliga. Villarreal also would not be a bad option as they are keen on signing a replacement for Alexander Sorloth and subsequently, Datro Fofana could be handed regular minutes in Castellon.
Even though he has a contract at Chelsea until June 2029, David Datro Fofana is worth only €12 million on Transfermarkt. It is a fairly affordable sum for the interested parties, while the Blues could even reduce their demands to make the forward’s sale easier.
