Newcastle United have concrete interest in signing Noni Madueke from Chelsea
According to Football Insider, Newcastle United are keen on signing Chelsea winger Noni Madueke this summer, and the English winger has agreed to personal terms with the Magpies. The 22-year-old is currently with Chelsea on their pre-season tour of the USA and featured in their 2-2 draw with Wrexham on Thursday.
Madueke was one of the major goal-scorers for Chelsea last year under Mauricio Pochettino. Signed by former Chelsea manager Graham Potter from PSV Eindhoven in 2023, he only managed to score one goal in 12 Premier League games under the English manager. The young striker’s spot in last year’s squad was in doubt after the signing of Cole Palmer from Manchester City. However, Pochettino selected Madueke as the first-choice right-winger, giving the attacking-midfielder role to Palmer.
The 22-year-old thrived under the Argentine coach at Stamford Bridge, scoring eight goals and providing three assists in 34 games across all competitions for the Blues. Madueke became one of Pochettino’s favourite attacking options, using his pace and attacking prowess for Chelsea last season.
According to the aforementioned source, the English winger is set to move from Chelsea this summer, with Newcastle United agreeing to personal terms with him. Madueke has a contract with the Blues until 2030, and the Magpies will need to pay a hefty release clause to secure the deal.
Will Chelsea sacrifice Madueke?
Madueke played a vital role in Chelsea’s attacking line last season, making numerous moves into the box from his flank and providing key passes to his teammates. His first full campaign with the Blues was decent, and he remains under contract until 2030.
Chelsea’s new manager Enzo Maresca has included Madueke in his plans, and the winger is currently participating in the pre-season games for the West London club in the USA. However, Madueke might be pushed to a backup role following the inclusion of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester City. Maresca, who has previous experience managing Dewsbury-Hall, will likely include the midfielder in the Chelsea squad for the upcoming season, relocating Palmer to his primary right-winger position.
As a result, the 22-year-old winger may find himself as a backup player under Maresca, affecting his playing time. Consequently, Madueke might seek a move from Chelsea this season. Newcastle are heavily interested in the English winger to bolster their squad and will need to pay a significant amount to secure his signature.
