According to journalist Simon Phillips, despite Chelsea preparing to offload centre-back Trevoh Chalobah, the player expressed his desire to stay at the West London club. The English defender has rejected or stalled multiple offers in the summer.
The 25-year-old defender is one of the Blues academy players who made it into the senior team. Chalobah signed his professional contract with Chelsea in 2021. The player has also played for clubs like Ipswich Town, Huddersfield Town, and Lorient as a loanee before breaking into Chelsea’s senior team. With his three-year journey with the boyhood club, Chalobah has failed to establish himself as a top-class defender in the club.
The Englishman only got limited playtime at Stamford Bridge, he also missed the first half of the last campaign due to injury, but after his return to the club, he was a favourite starter for former manager Mauricio Pochettino. He appeared in 17 games for the Blues last year and scored one goal.
Chelsea has appointed former Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca and the club is preparing for a filter process in the club before the new campaign. Maresca is impressing Chelsea fans with his signings in the summer, the Italian manager has already completed six signings for the club and started pre-season training in Cobham for the players.
The West London club is preparing for some changes under Maresca for the upcoming season, as part of that club is preparing to offload some players in the summer including Chalobah. The tactician usually plays with three centre backs and he might go with Axel Disasi, Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana as the primary option.
As the English defender is not included in Maresca’s plan, the Blues are preparing to offload him in the summer. But the player has expressed his desire to stay with the boyhood club. As per Phillips, the 25-year-old has received a handful of offers from different clubs, but he has either turned approaches down, or he has stalled on them.
Chalobah’s desire to stay at Chelsea is understandable, but he may also be mindful of the need for regular playing time to continue his progression. If he gets the chance to stay at the West London club, he will be only used as a replacement option in the club as multiple talented defenders are available for Maresca in the squad. The less playing time may affect his football career, and he would be forced to stay on the bench for a good part.
The defender should move to a club that can offer guaranteed playing time. Regardless, Chelsea are gearing up to offload one more academy player from the club.
