A View From The Bridge

Chelsea’s injury-plagued star receiving Manchester United attention

Chilwell on the move? Manchester United eye Chelsea defender

Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell has been generating interest in a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer as Premier League rivals Manchester United look to snap his services, per the Daily Mail.

The 27-year-old ace joined Chelsea. He signed a £50 million deal from Leicester City in 2020, and he established himself as a key personnel player at Cobham at the time. He played some exceptional football under Thomas Tuchel in the left wing-back role as he helped Chelsea win the Champions League in 2021.

However, his time at the club has been plagued by consistent injuries. He has been on the receiving end of multiple serious injuries, including an ACL. The former Leicester City full-back served on the sidelines for the majority of the last season owing to hamstring problems.

His influence in the dressing room earned him the vice-captain tag by Mauricio Pochettino at the commencement of the last campaign. Despite the consistent spells in the doctor’s room, there have been questions about his future at Stamford Bridge. Many also seem to suggest that he does not suit Enzo Maresca’s playing style, fueling rumours of his exit.

Chilwell to Old Trafford?

Ben Chilwell has been linked with a move away from Chelsea.

Manchester United are looking for a competitor to Chilwell’s international teammate, Luke Shaw, who has been on the receiving end of injury concerns over the last campaign himself.

It is unclear if Chilwell wants to move on from the Blues, and if so, what would be the asking price for his services if United fortified interest in his signatures.

If Ben moves to United, he will join Mount at the Manchester Reds, who left Chelsea for Manchester last summer. Mount has held Chilwell in high regard during the pair’s time together at the Bridge, and he may put in a word or two that may influence United’s hand.

Mount, speaking about Chilwell, acknowledged his quality and grind, saying, “He’s been so focused every single day on what he needed to do. He did it with a smile on his face. Even though he wasn’t with us the whole time, it felt like he was with us. He brings the atmosphere up, and that’s the type of character he is. Brilliant to see him come on at the end there.”
