End of the road for Chilwell at Chelsea?
Chelsea could consider selling vice-captain and defender Ben Chilwell if they get a substantial offer for his services, per The Athletic, with the left-back being one of the marquee earners at the Bridge.
The 27-year-old ace joined Chelsea in a £50 million deal from Leicester City in 2020, and he established himself as a key player in West London at the time. The England international played some exceptional football during Thomas Tuchel’s time at the club when he operated in the left wing-back role as he helped Chelsea win the Champions League in 2021.
However, the defender has spent the majority of his time at the club on the sidelines. He has been on the receiving end of multiple serious injuries, including an ACL. The 27-year-old also served in the injury room for the majority of the last season owing to a hamstring problem.
He is a senior figure in the dressing room at Cobham, which earned him a vice captain tag under Mauricio Pochettino. Despite such status, many suggest that he may move away from the Blues this summer owing to his injury history, complemented by the fact that he doesn’t suit Enzo Maresca’s playing style.
Chelsea weigh up Chilwell’s future
There is no doubt that he possesses elite qualities, especially when he is all guns blazing. However, the fact that he is one of the highest earners in the club and he doesn’t play to his levels throughout the season forces the club to reconsider his future.
And The Athletic suggests that the former Leicester City defender might bid adieu to Chelsea despite still having three years left on his contract at Stamford Bridge. The Blues could consider selling the 27-year-old if the right price is offered.
