A View From The Bridge

Chelsea set to battle Liverpool for 22-year-old Championship star labelled ‘a baller’

Chelsea and Liverpool are competing for Championship star Crysencio Summerville

Chelsea are showing concrete interest in signing talented Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville. Premier League rivals Brighton are out of the race for the player, while Liverpool and French club Paris Saint Germain are keeping tabs on the Dutchman.

The 22-year-old Dutch forward impressed in the Championship for Leeds United last season. The winger has scored 21 goals and contributed 10 assists in 49 games across all competitions for the Whites; he also led the club to the Championship play-off final, where Leeds lost to Southampton. His impressive stint with the club also earned him the Championship Player of the Season. Farke described the Dutch youngster as a ‘baller’.

The Dutchman is a versatile forward who can manage multiple positions in the frontline. Summerville has scored more goals as a right winger in his career and later switched his position to the left flank. The Netherlands U21 star signed his contract with the Yorkshire club in 2021. He has two more years left on his contract with Leeds, and the player is preparing for a move in the summer as he receives several offers from Premier League clubs. Brighton were the front-runners to acquire his signature, but they are currently moving out of the deal as they failed in the initial talks with the Whites, per Team Talk.

When clubs like Liverpool and Chelsea come calling, it is difficult for a young player to reject the offers. Leeds had plans to extend his contract but failing to win promotion back to the Premier League has affected the club’s financial stability.

Summerville to Chelsea?

Chelsea want to sign Crysencio Summerville

Chelsea would have major changes in the new season under Enzo Maresca. The tactician would also like to add some more players to bolster the squad and Chelsea may bring some major changes in their attacking and defensive lines for the upcoming season.

Currently, Chelsea winger Mykhaylo Mudryk prefers playing on the left side, The Ukrainian international also had a wonderful season under Pochettino last year. Summerville, who thrived in the Championship last year, may get a chance on the left flank for the West London club, or Maresca, would prefer him as a backup option for Mudryk.

Noni Madueke will lose his position if Summerville is assigned to the right wing, and the Dutchman can create attacking impetus with rising star Cole Palmer, which will increase the goal-scoring chances of the West London club. The agility of the player and his scoring ability also can be used by the gaffer by assigning him to the false nine position.
