Chelsea have seen a bid for Sami Omorodion rejected as the Blues continue their pursuit of a new number nine this summer transfer window.
The West Londoners have a need to acquire a marquee striker this summer following their struggles in front of goal in the last season. Nicolas Jackson, who joined the Blues last summer, scored 14 goals in the Premier League last season, which is a decent tally for someone who is playing his first campaign in the English top tier. However, he has faced ample criticism from fans and pundits alike for his irregularities in front of goal.
This is where the need to sign a new player on the offensive line arises. They are targeting Atletico Madrid ace Sami Omorodion after their bid to land prime target Benjamin Sesko failed earlier in the summer transfer window.
Sami Omorodion signed for the Madrid giants only last summer from Granada before he was shipped to Alaves in a temporary move for the 2023–24 season. He scored eight goals in the campaign, which is not a mega number; however, his performances were enough for Diego Simeone’s side to cut short his loan deal midway through the season.
Chelsea made a €50 million bid to sign Sami earlier this week, which was rejected right away by the Spanish giants, who are under no pressure to sell with their financial troubles out of the way. Atletico Madrid will be holding out for the West Londoners to make a release clause attempt to land Sami, whose clause per the current deal at Wandametropolito stands at €100 million, per Mundo Deportivo.
We will see what the officials at Chelsea would do with respect to Omorodion and if they will compound in their bid to test Atletico’s resolve or move on to other targets.
