Chelsea have been compounding their transfer policy of signing highly rated youngsters from world football, and the Blues have secured signatures for yet another acclaimed starlet, Renato Veiga.
The 20-year-old hails from Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon. The Verde e Brancos have an excellent reputation for developing players in Europe, though they also have a history of letting promising youngsters slip out of their fingers. From Ricardo Pereira to Santiago Arias to Matheus Pereira to Merih Demiral, there is a long list of players who have succeeded following their departure from José Alvalade Stadium, and Renato Veiga adds to the growing list. He plies his trade for FC Basel, where he has put in some impressive performances, enough for Chelsea to consider bringing his services to Stamford Bridge.
Renato Veiga has a versatile profile in the middle of the park and can play in a CDM and CM role, filling in at the left-back and centre-back if the need arises. His massive stature gives him the physique and presence to dominate aerial duels and provide stability in the midfield. He has represented Portugal at the U-19, U-20, and U-21 levels. And while many thought a big move could be around the corner for the 20-year-old, Chelsea have snapped his services before any other club could have a pick.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano suggests that the Portuguese are heading to England this summer in a €14 million deal. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Romano dropped a HERE WE GO, writing:
“EXCLUSIVE: Chelsea agree deal to sign Portuguese talent Renato Veiga from FC Basel! 2003 born-footed versatile defender/midfielder set to leave Basel training camp to join Chelsea. The package will be worth €14/15m, personal terms agreed. Here we go.”
With the services of the Portuguese secured, Chelsea will be looking to sign some marquee players who can help the team in the upcoming season.
