Enzo Maresca is not planning to count on Trevoh Chalobah for the upcoming season and is ready to sell the centre-back having left him out of the club’s 28-man travelling party to the United States for pre-season training and friendlies.
The Englishman will be allowed to depart Stamford Bridge if a club is ready to pay in the range of £30 to £35 million for his services this summer, as per transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, with three Premier League clubs featuring in European competitions already in the running.
The names of the clubs interested in Chalobah are not known yet but Chelsea’s price tag will be viewed as reasonable by the 25-year-old’s suitors, especially as they are said to be playing in the continental competitions.
Chalobah was a part of the Chelsea squad for the last three years and played 58 times for them in the Premier League. However, Maresca believes that now is the right time to get rid of the player as the Blues are well-covered at the back with their existing options, which also include the recently acquired Tosin Adarabioyo.
With a busy list of fixtures next season for Chelsea, who could potentially be playing in the new format of the UEFA Conference League, Chalobah’s inclusion on the roster would have been vital for their depth but his sale will be financially beneficial.
The central defender is a homegrown talent and his transfer fee of £30 to £35 million will help in significantly alleviating the Blues’ financial pressure, whilst also aiding them in acquiring fresher faces as part of their ongoing squad revamp.
If Chelsea are able to receive the desired amount by selling Chalobah, they may also decide against selling Conor Gallagher, who has been linked with leaving west London since the start of the summer.
