Chelsea midfielder linked with loan exit as Premier League clubs line up

Multiple Premier League sides have expressed interest in signing Chelsea midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu

Multiple Premier League sides have expressed interest in signing Chelsea midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu in a loan deal this summer as the Blues review their options in the heart of the park going into the upcoming campaign, per The Athletic.

Chelsea signed Lesley Ugochukwu in a £23.5 million move from French side Rennes last summer, as the 20-year-old signed a long-term contract at Stamford Bridge. However, the French midfielder is reportedly not a key component of Enzo Maresca’s squad for the upcoming campaign, which has opened up the possibility of sanctioning a loan move this summer.

Ugochukwu nearly went to the Olympics with France as he was part of the provisional squad for Les Blues, although he did not make Thierry Henry’s final cut.

He made 15 appearances wearing the Chelsea badge last season, although he spent the majority of his time in West London on the sidelines owing to a hamstring injury priced up at Christmas time. He did appear in the club’s season-closing game against Brighton and Bournemouth, indicating the possibility of the club considering him for the future.

However, Chelsea are stacked with options in the midfield, and even more so after the club announced the signing of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester City earlier this summer. This pushes the possibility of a loan for multiple players in the Cobham dressing room.

The Athletic understands that three Premier League clubs and teams from around Europe have inquired about possibilities for signing Ugochukwu on loan this summer.

The report further states that Chelsea wants to prioritize that the 20-year-old spend time in the Premier League next season. The initial plan was for him to go to Strasbourg last season, although Mauricio Pochettino wanted to keep him as a part of the Chelsea squad.

Multiple players have a blurry future at Chelsea as of now. Conor Gallagher has been linked with a move away from the Bridge, while no decision has been made on Andrew Santos just yet.
