Chelsea make transfer call after learning asking price of London rivals’ shot-stopper

Aaron Ramsdale transfer fee revealed as Chelsea make call

According to talkSPORT, as reported by Football London, Arsenal are looking to get as much as £35 million for Aaron Ramsdale, who has been linked with—among other clubs—Chelsea in a surprise turn of events, despite The Mirror having reported recently that the Blues are dropping their interest in the England international.

The 26-year-old joined the Gunners three years ago on a £24m deal potentially rising to £30 million with add-ons, having signed a £120k-per-week contract set to run until June 2026.

Despite shining for Arsenal, chances reduced for Ramsdale last season after the arrival of David Raya from Brentford, who quickly became Mikel Arteta’s first-choice goalkeeper, relegating the Englishman to the bench.

The goalkeeping situation at Chelsea, meanwhile, is delicate at the moment, to say the least. Đorđe Petrović, who had become their first-choice goalkeeper towards the end of last season, is now on his way out along with Marcus Bettinelli and Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Robert Sánchez, whose dwindling performances had relegated him to the bench, is reportedly set to be new coach Enzo Maresca‘s first-choice keeper going forward, though further underwhelming performances could put pressure on him, with Chelsea keenly looking for a goalkeeper to challenge him for the No.1 spot.

Chelsea have also been linked with the likes of Filip Jorgensen of Villarreal and Real Madrid’s Andriy Lunin.

Chelsea goalkeeping situation one to look forward to this season

Sánchez’ performances had become unconvincing even towards the end of his Brighton stint, and the fact that they continued at Chelsea is a worrying sign.

Sure, Maresca likes him for now based on his profile, but football is a cutthroat business that is ready to leave promising players behind if they are not performing consistently, especially at a trigger-happy club like Chelsea.

As things stand, it is likely Chelsea bring in a keeper before the window shuts, and it is likelier for that keeper to soon become the first-choice at Stamford Bridge in the coming months.
