Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo has publicly delivered his thoughts on former Blues goalkeeper Mauricio Pochettino. The former Brighton midfielder has not only critiqued the Argentine coach but also expressed the difficulties he had training under the former PSG manager.
It’s one of the interviews where the Ecuador international did not hold back as he compared his time at Brighton with that at Stamford Bridge.
Caicedo moved to Chelsea last summer as the West Londoners completed a last-minute hijack of the 22-year-old’s signatures from under the noses of Liverpool in a £100 million transfer. His transfer sealed headlines as Caicedo came with a Kante successor tag. He featured under Pochettino in his first season at the Bridge, and with the 52-year-old long gone, he has opened up about his time under Poch in the last season.
Moisés Caicedo, in an exclusive interview with Alfonso Laso Ayala, suggests that training under Pochettino was all about running and energy, while at Brighton everything used to revolve around the tactical side of the game. Chelsea’s number 25 said:
“At Brighton, it was all tactical, just with the ball; tactical, tactical, tactical. And at Chelsea, it was run, run, run, and it was very difficult for me. With Chelsea, I always ran a bit more, and with Brighton, we almost always had the ball; with Chelsea, it was a different football, and we had to run more.”
That would be a difficult read for Pochettino considering his football revolved around high energy and high pressing, although he did receive criticism from pundits and fans alike around a lack of tactics and incompetence to outfox his opponents.
On a fair note, the team played some beautiful football during the final run-in of the campaign, and it looked as if the Blues were getting their halo back just before the Argentine was shown the door.
Caicedo will be hoping that training under Enzo Maresca is nowhere near what he dealt with Pochettino as Chelsea starts preparing for the upcoming campaign.
