A View From The Bridge

Blow for Chelsea as West Ham submit bid for 28G/A star

Leeds United star Crysencio Summerville has been on Chelsea’s radar

Chelsea have received a fresh blow in their pursuit of highly-rated Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville. This is because transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claims that West Ham United have lodged an opening offer to sign the Leeds United star.

Crysencio Summerville has become one of the most highly sought-after commodities in the transfer market this summer after a highly productive campaign in the Championship. The Dutchman bagged 19 goals and nine assists in 43 Championship appearances for Leeds United as he showcased his potential to make an impact at a higher level. For his efforts, he was named the Championship Player of the Season.

The Rotterdam-born star’s long-term future at Elland Road is the subject of speculation after the Peacocks failed to secure promotion to the English top flight at the first attempt. Chelsea have been among a host of clubs interested in signing Summerville after his exploits in the Championship.

However, it is our London rivals, West Ham, who have made the first concrete move to sign the 22-year-old. On his official X account, Fabrizio Romano claims that the Hammers have also spoken with Summerville’s camp but a potential deal is considered very expensive. Serie A side AS Roma has also included the Leeds attacker in their list but will only act if the Matias Soule deal collapses.

“West Ham have submitted initial proposal to Leeds United for Crysencio Summerville,” Romano tweeted.

“Talks took place also on player side, but still not close, considered very expensive.

“AS Roma have also included Summerville in their list but only in case Soulé deal doesn’t happen.”

Summerville could view this as the perfect time to earn a big move away from Leeds after lighting up the Championship. He is too good to be playing in the English second tier, where he ran the defenders ragged with his movement, flair, unpredictability and burst of acceleration this past season.

The Netherlands youth international’s profile makes him a perfect fit for Chelsea, who presently have Raheem Sterling, Noni Madueke, Mykhaylo Mudryk and Christopher Nkunku as wide options. None of Sterling, Madueke or Mudryk have lived up to the lofty expectations of the Stamford Bridge faithful in the last two years, while Nkunku’s time at the club has been ravaged by injury problems.

Chelsea have been keen on signing Leeds United forward Crysencio Summerville

Sterling, in particular, has proven to be the biggest disappointment at our club. The England international tasted rich success at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola but has flattered to deceive at Chelsea. With the wide forward 29 and his value depreciating, our club must look to move him on and trim the wage bill. And by doing so, we could replace Sterling with Summerville.

Summerville’s playing style, movement and burst of pace reminds us of a young Sterling during his days with Liverpool. There is a long way to go for him in his career but signs of scary potential have already been visible in the Championship.

If Chelsea have a concrete interest in the Dutch talent, West Ham tabling their initial offer to Leeds should be enough to wake us up.
