Wolverhampton (Wolves) have concluded their negotiations with Sport Recife star teenager Pedro Lima at €10 million, overtaking the initial bid of €6.7 million by Chelsea for the 17-year-old.
Lima had initially confirmed Chelsea’s bid to sign him from Strasbourg, a sister subsidiary club of owner BlueCo. But Wolves have surpassed the Blues with the Brazil Under-17 international’s signature.
The generous trade of €10 million between Sport Recife and Wolves recorded the biggest transaction in the history of a club in the Northeast region of Brazil. Being just a 17-year-old, Lima is already playing a key role for the Sport senior team, appearing 26 times for them last season and he even scored two key goals.
According to Lima’s agent (Globo), Wolverhampton have been following Pedro Lima since the U17 World Cup. They also attended the May 3rd game against Coritiba and, a day or two later, met the delegates from Lima in Recife.
At the same time, BlueCo sent Sport Recife a deal of €7.5 million plus a €3 million bonus—that would come with his triggers, which would require him to be called up by the Brazilian team.
That’s when they ended their conversations with BlueCo and began negotiations with Wolves, who offered a €10 million bid for the teenager without any triggers which Sport found appealing.
Moreover, Sport will also have a stake in future sale of the 17-year-old athlete. Wolves’ offer was more appealing and it seemed they had a lot of belief in the teenager’s potential.
It isn’t a big worry for the Blues, though; they already have multiple young stars on their transfer list and even if they fail to seal one of them, it shouldn’t be a huge deal. The Blues had a lot of trust in Lima’s potential but they will now be able to focus on targets with a bit more experience.
