According to Football. London, Victor Osimhen has publicly stated his displeasure with former Nigerian manager Finidi George amid reports linking him with the Premier League.
The highly sought-after striker, who has been linked with both Chelsea and Arsenal, has been embroiled in controversy for reportedly evading international service because of minor ailments. Nigeria are failing to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, and George was chosen to improve their record but left barely two months later.
George is alleged to have become unhappy with Osimhen after the Napoli player missed several games due to injuries. During an Instagram live, Osimhen broke his silence on the topic and stated his loyalty to the Nigerian squad, as well as his affection for George.
“I won’t let anyone believe anything about me. I don’t just address anything – everybody knows when I play for Nigeria, I play my heart out,” he said.
“I just let everything go, but I won’t disrespect anybody. I knew things like these would happen, and that’s why I have the videos and screenshots of when I called Finidi while I was with the doctor in Germany.
“I’ve lost respect for that man because before I disrespect anybody, I always respect them.”
Following Osimhen’s rant towards his coach on social media, Finidi George resigned as Nigeria’s head coach over technical changes, but many link this resignation to Victor Osimhen’s rant.
With an incredible 48 goals in the last two seasons at Napoli, Osimhen’s prospective move to the English Premier League continues to generate headlines, with Chelsea and Arsenal both believed to be interested in signing him. Chelsea seeks competition for Nicolas Jackson in attack, while Arsenal hope to strengthen their frontline.
With Napoli seeking a whopping £100 million for Osimhen, no Premier League teams are willing to match such numbers right now. However, sources from Italy imply that certain Saudi teams may be prepared to match Napoli’s valuation.
Napoli’s officials have been expecting the striker to leave since last summer and have been trying to get his contract extended. However, Osimhen is likely to depart and let’s see if he chooses to come to Chelsea
