According to BBC, via Football. London, Cesare Casadei’s future will be decided by Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca. The 21-year-old will be hoping to fight for his place in the starting lineup at the club next season as the Blues prepare for a new campaign under Maresca.
Casadei was loaned to Leicester City and was having a good season until he was called back by the club’s then-manager Mauricio Pochettino after increasing injuries to the players. During his short spell at Foxes under Maresca, the Italian midfielder enjoyed a great spell and scored two goals.
Maresca could count on Casadei for next season because he has seen him play at Leicester and has excelled there. Given the depth at Chelsea’s midfield, it will be tough to fight for a starting spot as Casadei is young and hasn’t had many games last campaign.
The decision will be up to the Italian manager because if he feels Casadei will be an ideal player to reinforce his midfield then the Italian midfielder will have a big role to play at the club in the forthcoming campaign. One thing about Casadei is he will be able to settle into Maresca’s approach, having played already under him.
This gives the former Manchester City assistant manager a key to use Casadei, but the problem will be other midfielders are already ahead of him in the pecking order. Casadei can prove his mettle during the tour to the USA, thus pre-season will be key in deciding if he should stay or be loaned out.
Even a loan move to another club will be wise for Casadei because he is just 21 and remaining at Chelsea could see him used as a backup midfielder. More playing time is necessary for a young player to emerge. This will help him advance; if the parent club is convinced, they will call him back.
Casadei can play for the team in the future season if Maresca has plans for him in the starting lineup; if not, a loan will be far better for him. Casadei is an adaptive midfielder who can play as a 10, 8, and striker due to his excellent goal-scoring abilities.
